It’s a hard road for teams vying for a Schwan’s USA CUP Cup Flight championship. The road becomes harder if a team plays in both the weekend and weeklong tournament.
The Oakville Gunners from Ontario can attest to this. Oakville won the 16 boys championship during the weekend. Team coach Phil Ionadi told about some of the challenges of teams that compete in both tournaments.
“Injuries and the mental drain on a team playing in both tournaments makes winning tough,” he said.
“Rain the past two days has affected the team,” said players Jonty Gaylor and Delpin Nogueira. “We would warm up and get all pumped up, then would have to go inside and sit for an hour.”
When asked how the weekend compares to the to the week tournament, the players responded that the week tournament has more of a loose atmosphere, while the weekend is more draining.
The Oakville Gunners have played 21 games in 21 days.
